If you are going through breast cancer, than many of you have a strong man by your side who’s giving you support.  No matter if it is a brother, friend, boyfriend or husband – breast cancer will be difficult for anyone who cares about you.

Breast cancer challenges you physically, mentally and emotional – it also can be a challenge in your relationships.  For many men they fear inadequate and unable to give you everything you need.  You may tell them they are doing their best, but sometimes it can be difficult to support them supporting you.  One way to help them can be to use the same resources you use for support and turn them towards your man.

There are a ton of great resources out there for your man to look into and for you to lead him to.  For instance, the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization has programs made especially for the man in your life.  These partner up husbands new to breast cancer with those who’ve been through it already.  Its easy to get a involved and just a phone call away on their website to get this kind of support.  They also offer brochures and information that can help you learn more about breast cancer and how it affects both partners.

Another helpful resource for men is forums or online message boards where they can get help online from other men who are dealing with the same thing.  One such message board on bcsupport.org is specifically focuses as a place for men to discuss their emotions dealing with breast cancer.  You can go on and login anonymously or using your name and talk to men all over the country and even the world about how you are dealing with your wife or partner’s breast cancer.  Hearing feedback from other men will make you feel less alone and more connected to other people.

No matter how your man chooses to get support – encourage him.  Whether its connecting to another couple, an online message board or even sometime of counseling – anyway is a good way to get extra support.  He needs to feel supported so you can both heal together.
