What Do Fly Fishing And Breast Cancer Share?

According to courant.com fly fishing has plenty to offer those recovering from breast cancer? What’s so special about fly fishing? It’s a combination of the fly fishing and the philosophy behind this resort which was founded back in 1996 by a breast surgeon who was also a fly fisherman, who recognized that the movements that were used in fly fishing could really help women recover from their breast cancer surgery which many times leaves women with limited arm mobility.

This natural form of physiotherapy is very beneficial especially when it’s combined with the emotional healing that takes place. Women are able to openly talk about their breast cancer. They can talk about where they’ve been, where they are now, and their hope for the future. They can share their scars and their experiences both physically and emotionally and that’s very beneficial to the healing

Casting for Recovery has grown from only 4 retreats when it opened to more than 37 retreats across the country and it’s still looking to expand. What’s great about this program is that it is free to breast cancer survivors. All costs are covered by corporate donations and fundraising. That means women of all walks of life can participate.

Breast cancer isn’t just a physical disease. It’s also emotionally scarring for many women. This wonderful concept that helps to build physical strength and emotional strength is just what the doctor ordered.
