Are Two Cheap Drugs Going To Be The Cure For Breast Cancer

A recent BBC News post indicates that a chemo drug and a brittle bone medication could be the cure for breast cancer. As strange as that might sound studies saw tumors completely stop growing with this combination. And both of these are cheap drugs that anyone could afford. Of course whether they’d remain cheap once they were associated to the cure of breast cancer remains to be seen.

This isn’t just a theory that needs to be tested. t used a dose of the drug doxorubicin, a common component of chemotherapy regimes, followed 24 hours later by zoledronic acid, currently given to osteoporosis patients. In the mice, this stopped 99.99% of new cancer cell growth in tumors. That’s exciting!

The theory is that the first drug prime the tumor so that it’s more sensitive to the cancer cell killing qualities of the second drug. There’s some irony here in that both of these are commonly used for other conditions yet have such an important role to play in the area of breast cancer.

What’s really great is that these drugs would not have to undergo the lengthy testing that takes up so much valuable time before it can be used on people. Both of these drugs already have approval for their use so that would shave many years off the time frame bringing it to market a lot sooner.

Both of these drugs are inexpensive, both are readily available. Of course there’s going to have to be some testing on humans in their role as breast cancer busters but there’s little problems anticipated.

Could this be what we’ve all been waiting for?
