Pink Ribbon For Breast Cancer Awareness
There is no question that for the most part society is much more aware of breast cancer now than just a decade ago. Much of that has to do with some excellent marketing that has occurred. Take for example the Pink Ribbon – what it stood for, and where we have gone with the pink campaigns in such a short time.
The pink ribbon was to be a symbol of awareness. It was to remind us that breast cancer was very real affecting our mothers, our grandmothers, our aunts, our daughters and that we must never stop forging ahead for a cure.
The goal of the breast cancer foundation is to raise enough money to find a cure and to create awareness. Since inception the foundation has provided millions in research funds, and there’s no question that awareness is definitely much better.
Today there are all kinds of pink merchandise on the market all designed as part of awareness campaign. The trouble is to some degree it has been abused. It seemed everyone jumped on the pink campaign bandwagon. The trouble is with much of that merchandise there might be only a small amount of money going back to the foundation and in some cases none at all. Since you’re purchasing the merchandise because you “think” you are doing a little to help it’s only fair that you know that’s what is happening.
One way to make sure that’s what is occurring is to purchase merchandise that’s licensed by the national breast cancer foundation. Then you know a significant portion of your purchase funds are going to help find a cure and to support women who have breast cancer.
Whether you donate, participate in one of the many fundraisers such as a breast cancer run, or buy licensed merchandise your support is very important.
And for all women it’s important to recognize the symptoms of breast cancer. Early detection is important!
