Tips For Dealing With Breast Cancer

A diagnosis of breast cancer can leave you overwhelmed, frightened, and exhausted. According to the American Cancer Society, there are a few things you can do to help you cope. Think of your breast cancer battle as another chapter in your life. You’ve come through many trials and tribulations, and you can come through this too. Let’s have a look at some of those tips:

1.    Let it go – Don’t let things get to you. Whether it’s the housework that’s not getting done, the visiting, the person who you find extremely annoying and overpowering – just breathe deep and say “who cares.”
2.    Let your hair down – Find someone you feel comfortable talking with and open up.
3.    Look to your faith – Your religion can offer you a great deal of comfort.
4.    Be patient with yourself – At first you could find yourself reliving when you received your diagnosis, or your surgery. It will return to normal just be patient.
5.    It’s okay to cry – Grieving is allowed. You might cry often initially but you will begin to heal emotionally and things will get better.
6.    Rest –Naps are good. Just 20 minutes is all you need to lift your mood and feel rested.
7.    Set limits – Don’t let yourself become overwhelmed, whether that’s with work, home, or you social commitments. You need to take care of yourself so reduce your responsibilities.
8.    Ask for help – Most of us are too proud to ask for help. Well don’t be. There are many people who would love to help if they just knew what you needed help with.
9.    Be nice to yourself – Treat yourself to a hot bath, a day at the spa, some time out reading your favorite book. It doesn’t have to cost a lot, and it’s really about what makes you feel good.
10.    Learn about your disease – the more you know and understand breast cancer, the better you are to cope. You are also better able to ask the right questions, know about the various treatments, and feel okay with the decisions you make.

These ten simple tips can help you deal with your breast cancer diagnosis better.
