Migraines And Breast Cancer – Is There A Relationship?

If you suffer from migraines you know how much you would give to be rid of those migraines, but if there was ever a silver lining it would be that migraines just might reduce your risk of breast cancer..at least according to what Science Magazine reports.

Recent research has shown that women that suffer blinding headaches could see a 30% reduction in breast cancer, than those counterparts that never suffered from headaches.

More surprising news. It was first believed the reason for these significantly lower rates in women with migraine, is because of the anti- inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen. T Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle has yet to determine the actual reason that migraines reduce the risk of breast cancer but it’s not because of the pain medications as was once thought.

However what they did discover is a direct association between low levels of estrogen in those that suffer from migraines and those that develop breast cancer. Migraines are the most common during the menstrual cycle when estrogen levels have dropped. That said results are still being cautiously interpreted.

There’s also a theory that women that suffer from migraines go to see their doctor more often and so their breast cancer is diagnosed earlier. These studies are only the beginning. There may be different results in the future but there’s certainly going to be a link, that they are sure of!
