Hillary Clinton Aims For 10 Year Cure To Breast Cancer
According to the Huffington Post Hillary Clinton isn’t just busy considering whether she will take the position of Secretary of State, Hillary is also busy working on putting together $300 million in government funding for breast cancer research that focuses on genetics, triggers, and treatments.
This former first lady and soon to be Secretary of State (well at least that’s the rumor) recently discussed her plan on the Ellen DeGeneres talk show, and she also informed Ellen that should she become president she would find a cure within 10 years.
Well now that she’s not going to be president that plan may be put on hold, but we can always hope can’t we. For Clinton wanted to increase the funding to the level that would leave no reason why a cure could not be found. It was also hoped that mammograms would become more readily available to low income women who for the most part do not receive the screening they should.
In 2007 240,000 new cases of breast cancer were diagnosed and around 40,000 women died. Although survival rates are better than they were in the past, these numbers are still not good, and Hillary Clinton’s goal was to radically change these numbers.
Will Hillary still be able to make her goal happen? That depends. Perhaps she can get the support of President Obama and still make this happen. After all it seems she’s going to be working closely with Barack and it’s rumored that this is a cause close to his heart too. Not surprising with a wife and two beautiful daughters that have the same odds as any other American women of developing breast cancer.
Breast cancer research has still not discovered the underlying cause of breast cancer but a 10 year goal for a cure is definitely a positive goal!
