Kerryn McCann Beats Breast Cancer But Succumbs to Liver Cancer

She was as valiant a fighter in her battle with breast cancer as she was as an athlete. For most of her life no challenge was to great for Kerryn to overcome. Sadly this was one battle she was not able to win.

Kerryn died at 11.20pm on Sunday, at her home in Coledale, north of Wollongong, with her husband Greg and children Benton, 11, Josie, 5, and Cooper, 14 months, beside her.

But Kerryn McCann sent a strong message to the many woman still left fighting breast cancer. Don’t give up! Her dear friend anyone who wasn’t as strong as she was, would not have put up the fight she did. She truly was a real fighter!

Kerryn was an inspiration to her sport and she’s an inspiration to the women who have had breast cancer and survived, those who are currently fighting breast cancer, and those women who will develop breast cancer some time in the future.

It was a quiet place today in Coledale, where flags flew at half mast, and Kerryn was remembered for the wonderful person she was.

Kerryn was diagnosed at 41 in 2007 and she beat her breast cancer but sadly it was this year that she found herself in the battle of her life with liver cancer.

Her message of hope really started back in her Commonwealth race where she was the underdog to win the race, but she did and as 100,000 people cheered for her in the stands it was then that the real meaning of hope was designed.

The message here is this – Kerryn may be gone but not forgotten and her message is strong “hope” and “fight” and you too can find yourself looking back at your fight with breast cancer from a survivors point of view.

Kerryn McCann will be missed by many. Our hearts and condolences go out to her family during this difficult time.
