Breast Cancer Prevention - Could It Be As Simple As Fruits & Vegetables

Each year millions of dollars go into finding a cure for breast cancer, but what if we could actually prevent breast cancer from occurring in the first place? Wouldn’t that be a lot better? What if breast cancer prevention was as simple as a diet that was packed with fresh fruits and vegetables.

According to a recently published article in Science Daily that’s exactly what the latest research is showing. A diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables is high in fiber and lower in fat has shown a significant reduction in the development of breast cancer. Why? There are several theories, which include low fat and high antioxidants.

Wait – here’s some other interesting research that came out of this study. Women who have hot flashes are less likely to develop breast cancer and those that do are more likely to survive than those that didn’t have hot flashes. Hot flashes are associated with lower estrogen levels and diet can directly affect estrogen levels, as is the case with fruits and vegetables which decrease estrogen in the body.

We could get into all the details of the study but you can find that over on the Science Daily site. What I’d like to focus on is once again what we put into our body and how it can directly affect our health. We’ve seen it with heart disease – how a low fat diet reduces heart disease. We’ve seen some reference in other cancers, and now it seems that breast cancer is also affected by what we eat.

We’ve all heard “We are what we eat” so is it possible that when we feed our body foods that are highly refined and processed with little value except that they fill us, that the necessary nutrients at the cellular level are not provided and so our body’s cells begin a slow process of deterioration which eventually leads to some form of serious illness such as breast cancer.

Certainly food for thought – so simple fresh fruits and vegetables – yet so powerful…
