Breast Cancer - Food For Thought

Look around you – what relatives near you have had breast cancer – your aunt? Your mom? Your sister? Your grandmother? Your daughter? That makes your predisposed to breast cancer. Relax – here’s another interesting note – more than 80% of all breast cancer occurs in women that are not predisposed to breast cancer.

 

Until just recently when it came to breast cancer prevention there was little a woman could except self breast exams and mammograms. But now according to several books that have hit the market the answer for protecting yourself against breast cancer could be in what you eat.

 

The Breast Cancer diet is geared towards controlling the way your hormones flow and it works to reduce the hormones that can increase your risk. In fact, it seems that scientists now believe that nutrition is the most important weapon women have against breast cancer.

 

According to Mylene Dayrit, you should:

 

1.    Add more anti-cancer fats to your diet.

2.    Eat fresh fruits and vegetables and then eat more!

3.    Get plenty of fiber in your diet.

4.    Drink less alcohol

5.    Stop smoking

6.    Exercise

7.    Have soy in your diet daily

8.    Take antioxidant supplements

9.    Reduce your exposure to estrogen from animals/foods

10.Be educated

Who would have thought that food for thought could really be so important. Today it’s even more important that it was years ago. Why is that? Because although we have plenty of food readily available to us, our diets generally consist of far too much prepared foods, and even when we eat fresh fruits and vegetables they are not always as fresh as we might think, having travelled thousands of miles to the local grocery store.

 

To eat the healthiest and thus help reduce your risk of breast cancer, shop the outer perimeter of your supermarket, and try to buy your fruits and vegetables from a local farmers market, or at the very least buy organic.
