There are a lot of prescription drugs that are used to treat breast cancer, but to date there is no pill that we can take that will prevent it. But what if exercise was your prescription for not only reducing your risk of developing breast cancer but also in treating it?
According to WFAA that’s exactly what scientists are saying. Previous thinking had it that if you were fighting breast cancer and other forms of cancer, you needed to rest, decrease your physical activity, and all around conserve your energy reserves.
Not anymore – now we’ve the Fit Steps For Life an exercise program that is designed for people fighting cancer, because studies have shown that they improve both mental and physical strength. And chemotherapy is even tolerated much better.
So important is exercise that some of the cancer treatments have undertaken the addition of gyms to their facilities as well as providing no cost trainers.
And while exercise has been shown to be part of the prescription for fighting breast cancer and other cancers, it has also been shown to be a preventative. But it’s going to take more than a walk up the stairs or around the block. According to the American Cancer Society you must exercise for at least 30 minutes every day.
This latest research is putting pressure back on the institutions to ensure that physical fitness becomes a lifestyle. It’s a well known fact that when incorporated in school it is carried through into adulthood. More and more work environments are also offering free or discounted gym memberships.
