Jeanne Peck Founder of Triangle’s Susan G Komen For the Cure, Succumbs To Her Cancer

It is with great sadness that we hear that Jeanne Peck has succumbed to her cancer. After surviving breast cancer for 21 years, she was diagnosed with lymphoma last year. And while she fought a valiant battle that battle was lost today.

It was back in 1997 that Jeanne brought the race to Raleigh, after she had ran in the Komen events in both Washington and Atlanta. From the first year raising $100,000 to just this year raising $2 million, this event has always been a success. And it will continue to be just that in loving memory of Jeanne Peck and what she did for breast cancer.

Over time the Triangle Komen race actually turned out to be the largest 5k in all of North Carolina. Funds raised are split 25% for national research and 75% in state for research grants, and breast cancer patient care.

Not surprising last year this Komen event was given the prestigious acknowledgement of being #1 in the world. This lovely lady did so much for breast cancer research and for making the world more aware of this dreaded disease.

While she fought breast cancer 21 years ago her friend rallied around her as she bit in full tilt never stopping her fight until she had won. When she was diagnosed with lymphoma she attacked the disease once again head on never backing down, and while friends stood by her side there to help whenever possible the battle raged on.

Sadly this time the outcome was not so good. Jeanne Peck will be sadly missed by friends, family, and all the people she touched over the years.
