Breast Cancer Treatment Are Not All The Same
According to a recent article in ScienceDaily not all breast cancers are the same and not all the treatments are the same. One other important fact to remember is that breast cancer does not automatically mean a fatal outcome.
Apparently one of the biggest problems when it comes to treatment is that oncologists find it hard to determine where the tumors will metastasize and therefore it’s more difficult to determine the right individual treatment.
The Tel Aviv University is taking on breast cancer on a more individual level. It will use various tools such as MRI’s and ultrasound to determine how the breast cancer has metastasized and then determine a treatment based on that information.
Clinical trials are going to commence in 2010 in Israel hospitals that are part of the research that is going on. This is going to result in an entirely new filed of medicine that’s less intrusive to the entire body.
This latest technology will help to accurately determine where the cancer is and they believe it will save more lives and do it being less evasive. They will be able to use this new research on solid tumors not just in the breast but in the brain, the lungs, and host of other places.
Currently the cancer can only be diagnosed when the tumor is visible. This new technology could lead to both earlier detection and earlier treatment, and even more importantly to treatments that are fine tuned to the individual rather than a one shoe fits all approach.
How will this affect you? It depends on how fast this new technology gets approved and travels to the western world. There is some exciting news here since the future for breast cancer patients could be very different than what it is now. I guess all we can do is wait and see.
