Do that Self Exam

Think About What's Important
If you’re like so many of us, you conveniently forget each month to do what you know you should–examine your own breasts for lumps. I read once that most breast lumps are found by spouses or significant others. Since I have no idea where I read that or how long ago it was, I don’t know if that is true. But it fits for me.
I’ll admit it. The one thing I consistently forget to do is my monthly breast exam. The thought will cross my mind from time to time but I usually dismiss it easily. Why? For me, I have to be honest and admit that I really don’t want to know. If I examine my own thoughts closely, I guess the reason is fear–of finding something that could potentially change or end my life. So I’d rather stick my head in the sand and not do it.
How smart is that? This got me wondering how many other women do the same thing I do?
I’m resolving to do my breast exam each month from now on. I encourage everyone else to do the same. Set aside a few minutes once a month and do this life-saving thing for yourself. Don’t let denial or fear outweigh the importance of this exam.
I won’t tell you how or when to do your own exam. If you need instructions and more information, then The Mayo Clinic has all the information you will need. Stay fit, stay healthy, and don’t live in denial like me.
