What is Breast Cancer?
W
e hear the term so much that it may seem strange to ask the question–What is breast cancer? But it is so often talked about but rarely explained that I felt this post was worth writing.
Obviously breast cancer is in the breast tissue. Cancer is strange. Your cells become abnormal, growing out of control. The mechanism that tells cells to die doesn’t work. The cells grow and some break off and spread to other parts of the body. Our immune system does not recognize them, allowing them to cause blood vessels to grow and nourish them as they turn into a tumor and grow out of control.
Eventually if not treated, the cells crowd out normal tissue. Death comes from the inability of the body to function normally. Treatment is possible is some cancers and not very helpful in others. That all depends upon the ability type of cancer present.
Cancer is one of the scariest words a person can ever hear. With the constant research that is ongoing, new treatments are becoming available.
