Appearance Matters to Breast Cancer Patients

mini-friendIt may seem trivial to mention appearance when someone is dealing with cancer. After all, the patient is struggling with the emotional and physical toll their disease is taking. But looking well can help bolster a cancer patient’s mood, and some experts believe that positive mental attitude can help a person have a better outcome that negative attitudes.

So what can you do to help improve your outlook? Well obviously, I will not know what will make you happy.  If you want even more information, check out this site for even more ideas: Oral Chemo. However, I do have a few ideas and here they are:

  • Chemo drugs cause weight loss, hair loss, fatigue, pale skin, nausea, and lost appetite. How can y0u battle the impact of hair loss on your appearance? Get a wig. Seriously, get a wig. There are many fine places to find a wig or hair piece that will help you forget what your hair line looks like on chemo.
  • Wear nice clothes that fit you proportionally.  Clothes that fit well can lend confidence to the wearer. Some days you may only want to stay in bed in your pajamas. But as often as you can, get up and get dressed.
  • Do wear makeup. Do you have a pale face from the difficulties of your treatment?  Do you have dark circles under your eyes? A little color and foundation can conceal some of the pain.

Of course, appearance is not the only thing that will help you feel better. The support of friends, family, and others in your community of people including others who have been down your path, are crucial to your health.
