Breast Cancer Awareness, Resources, Walks, & Product Reviews

Back to the Komen Site

mini-1121367_single_ribbon_pink3It’s time to go back to the Susan G. Komen site to continue the tour. We’ve covered the first two menu items on this site. The next worthy item to mention is Research and Grants. Now I’m sure you are thinking about government funded research and grants, right? Medical research would not happen without government funding, so this post is in no way meant to belittle the invaluable contribution made to advances in medicine without these vital programs; however, many programs also receive private funding that is rarely mentioned.

According to the Komen site, the foundation has made a huge impact on most research outcomes in the breast cancer field in the last 26 years. When put in perspective, that is an amazing achievement for an organization of any kind. When you consider that the foundation is not a government entity, their successes become even more amazing. More than 1800 projects for research have been granted funding. Over 400 specialists received training in part from funds raised by Komen.

Of course the foundation also accepts donations for those who want to make a difference in the lives of anyone touched by breast cancer. Private donations and run/walks are the fuel that keeps the Komen engine turning.

Applicaton information for grants is available on the website. Just go to the Komen Foundation at http://ww5.komen.org/researchgrants/researchandgrants.html.

Organizations seeking to fund research can apply for grants throuh the foundation. Interested parties should contact the website for more information.
