Phil Mickelson Tries to Win Silver Trophy for Cancer Stricken Wife at the U.S. Open

In last years U.S. Open Tiger Woods won with a torn ligament in his knee. This year Phil Mickelson will try to win with a heavy heart and a lot of motivation, his wife Amy.
Although rain washed away the first round of the tournament yesterday, play begins today and Mickelson is very passionate about winning the Silver Trophy for his wife. As I reported in an earlier post, Mickelson’s wife Amy has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She is scheduled to go in for Breast Cancer Surgery on July 1. Mickelson originally suspended his PGA play to be with his wife and show support, but in a class act she has insisted on him playing this weekend.
In a cool side note, Mickelson’s fans have been showing their support of the golfer and his wife by wearing pink. All over the course you can see pink hats, pants, shirts, you name it. Talk about a great way to bring some breast cancer awareness.
It just goes to show how those afflicted with cancer can motivate so many with their courage and will. We here at Think Pinker will be pulling for Phil and will continue to keep his wife in our thoughts.
