Merck plans to expand study of Stimuvax with breast cancer patients

pink-ribbon-1Drug and chemical giant Merck KgaA recently announced that it would expand its clinical trials of the vaccine called Stimuvax to include those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. According to the company, the vaccine has already shown promise in non-small cell lung cancer. The new study will attempt to see if breast cancer patients can live longer without having their disease progressing any further when using Stimuvax.

According to Bloomberg.com, Stimuvax is what is known as a therapeutic vaccine and is designed to trigger the body to kill cancer cells itself. Merck will conduct its next research trial on breast cancer patients who have tumors and have been primarily treated with hormonal therapy. The study will look at more than 900 patients and focus on survival rate, quality of life, response of tumors, and of course safety.

Once again modern medicine provides yet another ray of hope in finding an eventual cure for breast cancer. With all the trials that are currently being conducted by major drug companies and the numerous trials to come, finding a cure is just a matter of time. We here at ThinkPinker.com are excited about the new testing involvingĀ  Stimuvax and hope to see Merck’s expectations not only met, but excedeed.
