Phil Mickelson’s mother diagnosed with breast cancer less than two months after his wife

philIn a terrible twist of fate, less than two months after his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, PGA Golfer Phil Mickelson’s mother has also been diagnosed with breast cancer. The official news came just a few weeks after Phil Mickelson finished second in the U.S. Open, which he only played in at the request of his wife.

According to Bloomberg.com, Mary Mickelson will undergo breast cancer surgery in the same hospital that Mickelson’s wife Amy underwent surgery on July 1st.  Mickelson, who had already said he was going to take some time off the PGA Tour to support his wife, now says his presence at this weekends British Open is doubtful and that his return to the golfing world will not likely happen any time before August.

What an incredible year for Phil Mickelson. His will is undoubtedly being tested and we here at ThinkPinker.com will continue to hold his entire family in our thoughts. It just goes to show once again that breast cancer knows no limits and has no friends, only victims. Together though, through hope and action, we will one day find a breast cancer cure. While it is always sad to hear of anyone being diagnosed with breast cancer, the support and breast cancer awareness that comes with a high profile diagnosis is a great side effect to a terrible tragedy.
