Men can get breast cancer too

Breast cancer effects everyone, even men.

Breast cancer effects everyone, even men.

Though it is less than one percent of all breast cancer cases diagnosed per year, men can still be diagnosed with breast cancer. Yes it is rare, but it does happen. In fact, according to the American Cancer Society, around 2,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer are diagnosed in men each year with 450 of those tragically losing their lives to the disease.

Because breast cancer is so rare in men, many men have the misconception that they are immune to the disease and can not get it. It is this kind of miss-information that ThinkPinker.com hopes to correct.

According to imaginis.com, symptoms for male breast cancer include:

  • An abnormal swelling of one or both breasts and or chest muscles.
  • A dimpling of the skin.
  • Nipple retraction where the nipple turns inward.
  • Scaling or redness of the nipples.
  • Abnormal nipple discharge.

Just because you are a man do not assume that you are alright should you experience any of the preceding. Remember, just like for women, when in doubt, consult your doctor. It’s better to be included in the breast caner survivor statistic than it is to be included in the breast cancer victim statistic.
