Women who suffer from migraines less likely to get breast cancer
No one likes to get migraines, but if you are a wonam who suffers from migraines there may be something good you can take with the bad. According to a new study that was published in the July issue of Cancer, Epidemiology, Biomarkers, and Prevention, women who suffer from migraines have a 26 percent lower risk of breast cancer.
The study included data from 4,568 women with breast cancer and 4,678 women without breast cancer who all had an age range of 34 to 64 years old. Researchers do not fully understand why women who get migraines are less likely to ever have to get the dreaded news of a breast cancer diagnosis but suspect it has to do with hormone levels, in particular estrogen. While many breast cancers are fueled by high levels of estrogen, many triggers for migraines actually reduce estrogen levels.
The 26 percent reduced risk of breast cancer didn’t even change when researchers factored in menopausal status which gave even more confirmation of the researchers theory. While it may not be a breast caner cure it is welcomed news for all women who do unfortunately suffer from migraines on a constant basis.
