Bayer and Onyx say breast cancer pill Nexavar showing promise
Anyone who was watching a financial news channel today got some really welcomed exposure to breast cancer awareness via some big news. The news sent one company’s stock through the roof and left breast cancer patients who are battling progressive tumors with a new glimmer of hope.
Today two giants in the drug making industry, Bayer and Onyx announced that Phase II testing for the breast cancer treatment pill known as Nexavarshowed some amazing promise. According to Reuters, Nexavar when combined with standard chemotherapy Xeloda, helped keep breast cancer tumors in check longer than with just Xeloda alone.
The study included 229 women who already had breast cancer tumors that were spreading. There are more findings that are too be announced forthcoming in an unnamed scientific meeting.
Onyx, who relies solely on the sales of Nexavar saw it’s shares jump over 25 percent today, but the women who suffer from this horrific disease are the real winners. Thinkpinker.com is happy and hopeful that even more positive findings come soon with the drug Nexavar, which is now sold as a liver and kidney cancer treatment in over 70 countries. Adding breast cancer to the list would be spectacular.
