New study shows elavated insulin levels linked to breast cancer
According to a new study that has been published in the International Journal of Cancer online, postmenopausal women who have elevated levels of insulin are at a greater risk of developing breast cancer. The study revealed that women who had high levels of insulin in their blood had a strong association to an increased risk of the dreaded disease.
The study included the data of 5,450 women who took part in a Women’s Health Initiative. Beyond the initial findings, researchers also discovered that the link between breast cancer and elevated insulin levels was even greater for thin woman as opposed to obese woman. This bucks the trend as obesity usually leads to high levels of insulin. The study remains ongoing but researches say that postmenopausal women should try to keep their insulin levels in check through diet and exercise.
