Healthy habits help stave off breast cancer
New information has recently come out on over 800 studies that the American Institute for Cancer research has conducted and the findings are even more positive then before. While the former studies all looked at the positive effects of a healthy lifestyle as it relates to breast cancer, the new data showed some staggering numbers.
According to the new data, the group estimates that almost 40 percent, or roughly 70,000, cases of breast cancner per year in the United States could be prevented by making straightforward changes in ones lifestyle. The suggested changes are:
- Exercise for at least 30 minutes every day.
- Limit alcohol consumption to one drink per day.
- Stay as lean as possible in body weight, but don’t become underweight.
- Eat more fruits and veggies.
- Breast feed exclusively for six months after your baby is born.
- Avoid sugary drinks.
- Avoid excessive red meat intake.
- Avoid foods that are salty.
- Don’t use supplements to protect against cancer.
- No smoking or chewing tobacco.
While many of these factors were already known to stave off breast cancer, the percentage of women who could be protected if they just shift to a healthier lifestyle is staggering.
Think Pinker.com urges all women to get into a more healthy state of being not only for themselves, but for their family and loved ones as well. The wonderful thing about being in shape and eating better is not only warding off breast cancer, but the way you will look and feel as a result. It’s not easy being a health nut, but if you didn’t think it was worth it before, you certainly should now.
