Smoking and weight gain leads to breast cancer risk increase
Not as though it should come to any great surprise, but a new study has shown that smoking and excessive weight gain leads to an increased risk in breast cancer. This goes along with what many other studies have shown including recent studies that show an increase in healthy living reduces the risk of breast cancer.
The new study was the first of its kind to study the breast cancer risk in women that do not have the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene that increases the risk of breast cancer. According to the study, a 34 pound weight gain can increase the risk of breast cancer by as much as 68 percent in younger women and smoking just makes matters worse. Women that smoke one pack per day on average for nine years straight have an increased risk of 59 percent.
