Breast cancer in dogs

dogBecause October is Nation Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Idecided to go all out and find out some very obscure information about breast cancer to share. I found it in the form of our canine friends.

Did you know that dogs too can get breast cancer? This may come as a shock to all of you doggie lovers out there, but there is good news that comes with this. If you have your dog spayed before she goes into heat for the first time you will effectively wipe out the chances of her ever getting a breast cancer diagnosis.

If you have a dog to bread, then it is important to know that just like in humans, nursing will significantly decrease the chances of your furry pal getting breast cancer. But be warned.

We all know that early detection is the key to surviving breast cancer and the same holds true for your dog. If you feel any types of lumps that you are concerned with you should have them checked out by your veterinarian immediately. Your veterinarian can do simple tests to determine if the lumps are something to worry about or if they are simply harmless masses.

ThinkPinker.comurges all dog lovers out there to check your pups regularly for any abnormal lumps. While your doggies don’t have mammograms, they do have you, so help keep them healthy.
