Less money means less chance to become breast cancer survivor
The results of a new study have just been released and the results show that women that are on the lower scale of wealth have a less likely chance to be a breast cancer survivor. The study used data from more than 1000,000 women who had breast cancer diagnosis between 1998 and 2002. Of those participants, the survival rate for the ones living in poor economic conditions was much less than their affluent counterparts.
The main reason for this is that the lower income women seem to be diagnosed in the later stages. This could be due to lack of funds to get early screening done or simply a lack of education about the screenings. The study also found that the lower income women received radiation therapy much less frequently than the women who were at the higher income level.
Thinkpinker.com wants to remind everyone that it is this type of data that further proves how we must all band together to spread breast cancer awareness. We must also all give in any way that we can to worthwhile charities and organizations that will help fight breast cancer through further breast cancer research and studies aimed at figuring out a way to eradicate the disease forever.
While we are not all able to give money, there is more that can be offered. Love, support, and some volunteer hours also go a long way in helping reach the ultimate goal of an eventual breast cacner cure.
