Breast cancer in women and men show similarities

bothA new study that has been performed has shown that breast cancer in both women and men have many similarities. The main similarities found with the study are that both sexes have similar risk factors for breast cancer, that the biology of the deadly disease in men is similar to that of late on set ER-positive disease in women, and best of all, the mortality rate is improving for both.

The data used in the study was collected from a test group of both women and men from 1973 to 2005. Though the researched time was indeed extensive, the findings were just recently published.

Researchers went on to say that although the disease is not claiming as many lives on either side of the fence, men are still succumbing in greater percentages. Why? Breast cancer awareness.

I have written several posts on this very subject and many men have no idea that they are even at risk to ever one day receive a breast cancer diagnosis; but they are and they can. Men usually don’t think anything of it when a lump is in their breast and leave it alone thinking it will go away. By the time they are in fact diagnosed, the breast cancer is usually in its advanced stages.

ThinkPinker.com reminds not only the women, but the men as well to always be aware and if you find a suspicious lump in your breast have it checked out immediately. Early detection is the key to beating this horrible affliction.
