Actress who played Olivia on Sesame Street loses breast cancer battle

sesmeAlaina Reed Hall was known for many roles in which she portrayed over the years including the role of ‘Rose’ on the NBC sitcom 227. But those of us who grew up in a much more innocent time remember her as the beloved character ‘Olivia’ from the children’s show Sesame Street.

On December 17th this icon, who taught and touched so many children in her 12 years on the show, lost her personal battle with breast cancer at the age of 63. While her family certainly mourns, so do the rest of us who had the privilege of growing up watching her and the other lovable characters on Sesame Street.

In October, Hall was featured in the TV One documentary ‘Breast Cancer Examined: An African-American Perspective,’ produced by Gina Holland who is from the same area as Hall. Hopefully people will get to see this documentary and gain some breast cancer awareness in the process. The more we know about this horrific disease the better - and the closer it will bring us to one day finding a breast cancer cure.

ThinkPinker.com sends its most heart felt thoughts along to Hall’s family and hope that they can take solace in the fact that she touched so many lives while she graced the Earth. She will long be remembered and missed.
