Teresa Heinz has breast cancer - urges young women to get tested

hiFormer Presidential Candidate John Kerry’s wife Teresa Heinz announced that she is fighting breast cancer and has weighed in on the recent recommendations that women not get tested until the age of 50. Heinz says that the breast cancer diagnosis came after a mammogram she received and is thus urging younger women to get screened and not to heed the advice of the special task force.

“Chemotherapy is serious. It also costs a lot of money. It’s very painful. And it’s very destructive of people’s — most people’s — lives for a while, anyway. So why put people through that instead of just having a test that’s done, and it’s done?” Heinz told the AP during an interview this week. “So that’s why I was so upset about that decision of this panel.”

Heinz is yet another high profile woman to slam the panel’s recent recommendations and with breast cancer being such as large problem in the United States you can bet there will be more to come. ThinkPinker.com will of course continue to bring you all the latest in this now famous struggle for breast cancer awareness.

Our thoughts are with Ms. Heinz and we wish her a speedy and successful recovery. But let us not forget about all the others in our lives affected by this dreaded disease. Keep hoping and fighting becasue together and we will one day find a breast cancer cure.
