Teresa Heinz: follow up
In a follow up to a post I did last week, Teresa Heinz has undergone breast cancer surgery. This is after she recently came out and said that she has received a breast cancer diagnosis after a routine mammogram.
According to those closest to Heinz, the 71 year old wife of former Presidential Candidate John Kerry, has undergone lumpectomy surgery in both breasts. But it has just come to light is that Heinz had the surgery on October.
She will undergo radiotherapy in January but has not yet decided if she will undergo chemotherapy. ThinkPinker.com wishes her the best and lends support no matter what she decided.
Even though Heinz is well over the age of 50, which is the new recommended age for women to start receiving breast cancer screenings, she is urging all women to continue to get yearly exams citing the fact that early detection is key in beating this horrific disease. She has joined many doctors, good will organizations such as Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and now the Obama administration in recommending that all women go off of the old guidelines and continue to get screened annually at 40 years old.
As always, if you are unsure at all, please contact your doctor and ask questions. Breast cancer will only be beaten with plenty of breast cancer awareness and lots of hope. Don’t ever give up hope, because without it breast cancer wins.
