Buffalo teen uses her scare to help others

pink-21Anytime a woman finds a lump in her breast the scare of a possible breast cancer diagnosis is always going to occur. Now imagine how scary that has to be for a teenage girl.

That was the exact scenario that Ann Marie Henesey found herself having to deal with at the age of 17. When she was tanning outside she went to adjust her bathing suit top and felt a lump. She informed her mother and they decided that she should have the lump checked out by a doctor.

The scare ended up being just that; a scare. While most teenagers would simply go on with their lives and probably not give the scary episode much thought, Ann Marie felt compelled to do something.

Instead of just walking away from the situation she organized a dinner party called ‘A Night in the Pink’ and she got much more than she bargained for. About 50 people showed up and she was able to raise enough money to enter a three day breast cancer walk next summer that will see proceeds go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

ThinkPinker.com commends this teen and hopes that all women both older and younger will realize just how serious this disease is. Only by working together and doing all we can will we one day realize a world where a breast cancer cure is a reality.

As for Ann Marie, we wish her the best next summer and hope she raises plenty of money for her cause. Good job Ann Marie!
