Penn State womens basketball raises funds for breast cancer
Today the Penn State Lady Lions used the energy of the crowd of over 8,000 people to edge one of their arch rivals, the Illinois Fighting Illini 70-66. Why am I writing about a women’s basketball game?
The game was attended by over 250 breast cancer survivors and the night was a fundraising event for breast cancer called the WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State. The event, which is in its fourth year, has already released preliminary numbers of over $66,000 raised. The funds will go to several different charities in the area including Mount Nittany Medical Center.
While the game was close, ThinkPniker.com reminds everyone that the game we are playing against breast cancer is not so close. Breast cancer is still claiming far too many women each and every year. While the score is continuing to get closer and closer, we are still some time away from the day that we have a true breast cancer cure.
Hopefully more college teams will take the initiative that these women did tonight and play the game that they love not only to beat their opponents, but to beat breast cancer as well. Only with a lot of breast cancer awareness and proper breast cancer education can this be done.
