Red Cross president diagnosed with breast cancer

rc

The day after she was dealing with the tragic events that were unfolding in Haiti due to the massive earthquake, Gail McGovern who is the president of the American Red Cross, received what no women wants; a breast cancer diagnosis. She has since undergone breast cancer surgery and her doctors are very optimistic with her prognosis.

The 58 year old cites early detection as the key to beating this dreaded disease as this round of breast cancer was caught early. I say this round because in 2006 she fought and won another breast cancer battle that was also caught early.

She will soon undergo daily radiation therapy for several weeks as part of her breast cancer treatment but until then she will continue her work with the Red Cross. What an inspiration.

ThinkPinker.com wishes McGovern a speedy recovery and hopes that she will be back to her full time job of helping those in need very soon. I also hope that all of you women out there will take note that early detection is indeed the key to beating this horrific disease. Let us all learn from McGovern’s experience and do what we can to spread breast cancer awareness.
