New freezing research shows promise for breast cancer treatment

cold

The results of a small study that was conducted has just been released and has given new hope to breast cancer patients. The study suggests that one day women with breast cancer may be able to have an outpatient procedure done that utilizes freezing as opposed to other breast cancer surgery.

Peter Littrup MD and his team conducted a study with 13 women who all had a breast cancer diagnosis and who all had tumors as well. The tumors that the women had ranged from small to significantly large and each woman was treated with a technique were the tumors were frozen.

In all 13 cases all of the women were still alive some 18 months later and none of them had had a reoccurrence of breast cancer whatsoever. This method of breast cancer treatment is known as ‘image guided cryotherapy’ and was started by Littrup some 20 years ago.

While there is a lot more testing that needs to be conducted this is still exciting news for all of those who are having to do battle with this awful disease. ThinkPinker.com will stay on top of the story and will be sure to bring you more information as it unfolds.
