Woman paddles 40 miles for breast cancer awareness
When Jodie Nelson was almost done with her 40 mile paddle from Catalina to Dana Point California, she saw her family cheering. When she realized that after nearly nine hours she had reached her goal she threw her paddle up in the air as a sign of victory.
The feat that she accomplished was to raise breast cancer awareness and money that will be donated to Keep a Breast Foundation and Boarding for Breast Cancer. She is the first woman to accomplish the feat and one of only a handful of people who have completed the task.
While she was paddling along she had some unexpected company when a gray whale, later dubbed Larry, followed her for about an hour and a half and gave her much inspiration. The 30 foot whale was a welcomed supporter to her cause and her efforts for the day earned the worthy charities over $8,000.
Nelson’s overall goal is to raise $100,000 and ThinkPinker.com wishes her the best in her efforts to do so. Hopefully more people will conduct such selfless acts as Nelson and get creative when coming up with ways to raise money for breast cancer research. The more research and studies that are conducted, the closer we all get to the day when we live in a world with a breast cancer cure.
