Susan G. Komen for the Cure Executive Director has Breast Cancer
The Executive Director of one of the local chapters for Susan G. Komen for the Cure took her fight to the personal level when a few weeks ago she received a breast cancer diagnosis. Last June when she was heading up a Race for the Cure event in Seattle, Cheryl Shaw had no clue that she was about to become the cause that everyone there was racing for.
One in eight women will receive a breast cancer diagnosis this year alone, and Shaw now knows that she is that one. She is however very optimistic that she can and will beat this terrible disease and become another in a growing number of breast cancer survivors.
Shaw received her breast cancer diagnosis a few weeks ago and it came as a total surprise. As so often is the case, she felt fine and the discovery was made during a routine annual exam. This should serve as a reminder to all women who are at risk because of genetics or over the age of 40 to get your mammograms each and every year.
ThinkPinker.com wishes Cheryl Shaw a quick and speedy recovery and hopes that she reaches her goal of being back in full force for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is in October. Keep fighting Cheryl, we are ALL on your side!
