Breast cancer survivors seeming to prefer silicone implants over saline

implantOne of the hardest things that a breast cancer patient may have to go through is a mastectomy. When this happens, many women lose their feeling of self-worth. What has helped with this problem is these same brave women having breast reconstruction surgery and now new research shows that most of those women prefer silicone implants to saline implants.

In fact, recent research suggests that by the year 2015, the number will rise to 90% in regards to breast cancer survivors who choose silicone for breast reconstruction. This is a long way off from not so long ago as many feared what possible side effects could come with silicone implants.

In 1992 the FDA banned these implants, but then lifted the ban in 2006 as studies and findings came up empty in regards to the initial fears. Now silicone is making a comeback in breast augmentation as well as in breast reconstruction and the trend seems to be showing no signs of letting up.

However, it is still recommended that you speak with your physician before you decide on silicone or saline implants. By learning the pros and cons of both methods, you can choose the path which is right for you and your particular set of circumstances.
