For what seems like the one millionth time in the past year, the I (Heart) Boobies bracelets are back in the news and this time it seems as though they are headed to court.

Once again it has to do with these breast cancer bracelets and teenage students. In this case, two female Philly teens have been suspended due to wearing the bracelets and have decided to sue the school.

The girls say that these bracelets help promote breast cancer awareness and get teenagers talking about the subject, which is a very serious one. The school contends that these bracelets are sending the wrong message. Now it will be up to the courts to decide the fate of the two teenage girls as well as the I (Heart) Boobies bracelets. For now, they remained banned at the school, but there are bigger issues involved here.

The girl’s lawyer contends that their civil rights have been violated and there is certainly one thing going on. By banning the bracelets all together, the school is in a way discouraging the youths to talk about breast cancer. With so many being affected by this terrible disease, is there really a bad time to learn about it?

Sometimes the only thing that gets someone with breast cancer through another day is the love and support of others. While you may feel alone in your fight, you are not, and the support you need may be closer than you think.

There are now countless breast cancer support groups no matter where you hang your hat and these groups exist with one thing in mind; get you the support you so desperately need. Many of these support groups are run by breast cancer survivors who can empathize with your plight as they have walked the same path as you in the past.

Best of all, these groups will fill your days with breast cancer awareness, love, hope, and inspiration. You can also give back and help someone else down the line who might then be going though what you are going though now. After all, in the end, we are all in this fight together.

To find these breast cancer support groups you simply need to take to the web. Conducting a Google or Yahoo search will yield you with plenty of places to start and you can always go to the old standby organizations such as Susan G. Komen for the Cure and BreastCancer.org. However you decide to find the support, just know that it is out there and waiting. You don’t have to battle breast cancer alone, support is there when you need it.

Everyone knows how important mammograms are when it comes to detecting breast cancer, but now it seems that there is a new type of technology coming soon and this time its in 3D. This is thanks to a device from a company called Hologic.

Recently the company received great news from the FDA and now says it is one step closer to making 3D mammograms for all, a reality. So, while 3D has made its way into the movie theaters and now homes across America, it may soon find its way in the doctor’s office as well.

Similar technology can already be seen with 3D ultrasounds and the like. These new technologies are better as they show a better picture and a more complete look at the baby and this is similarly what 3D mammograms will do for breast cancer.

Because the 3D device will take images from multiple angels, a more complete picture will be seen. This means better results and hopefully more breast cancer survivors in the end. Technology is a wonderful thing, especially when you can see the positive effects it has against this horrific disease. Hopefully the FDA will fast-track this technology for the greater good of all.

When Oleus Lilly lost his grandmother to breast cancer, he lost the person that he describes as being his rock. After remembering what his grandmother always used to say, which was he ran so much that one day he would end up running clear across the state, the Texas man decided to do something big in order to honor his fallen family member and to make a difference.

Now this 31 year old is running across the state of Texas in 27 days. This ultimate tribute to breast cancer awareness is a fitting one to someone who lost their own personal battle to breast cancer, but there is a problem; no one seems to know about his venture.

As of this writing, Lilly has only raised $88.00, which is a far cry away from the $100,000.00 he has set as his goal. What makes this story even sadder is that Lilly has his own life on hold and stands to make nothing from this adventure. He is donating 100 percent of all monies raised to the American Cancer Society.

Thanks to the sacrifices of people like Lilly, there will always be those who fight the good fight against breast cancer and will ensure that one day there will be a breast cancer cure, but not if we all don’t pitch in.

There has been a lot of talk lately about the TSA’s new full body scans and aggressive pat downs, but this story really takes the cake. Three decade flight attendant and breast cancer survivor Cathy Bossi was recently forced to show her prosthetic breast to TSA agents.

The incident happened after Bossi had been “randomly” selected to pass through the new TSA full body scanner. Once she did, she was then lead to a room where she received a pat down that she describes as very aggressive. When a TSA agent felt her prosthetic breast, Bossi was questioned about it and after telling the agent what it was, she was told she would have to show it.

This has prompted Bossi to seek legal council and it is not immediately known if she did in fact have to show the prosthetic breast or not. According to regulations, the TSA agents may touch and question these and other types of prosthetics, but may not remove them.

It seems as though all this “enhanced safety” is being targeted at the wrong group of people. At any rate, there needs to be a crackdown on the process as you would think that a breast cancer survivor who has obviously been through a great deal with breast cancer treatments and a mastectomy, should not be receiving the full brunt of the TSA’s wrath.

For the TSA’s part, they are said to be looking into the matter. Hopefully they look long and hard as this is a situation that should have never happened in the first place and will hopefully not ever happen again.

Her mother was only 39 years old at the time of her loss so naturally when O’Donnell found lumps in her breast she was more than a little concerned.

However, despite a big scare for the Hollywood superstar, O’Donnell was able to be negative in a good way. According to numerous tests that she had done, including a biopsy, she is breast cancer free and has been given the all clear. She blogged this info with much enthusiasm.

This story serves as a strong reminder to all women to have any abnormalities checked out right away by your doctor. Don’t wait and hope that it will go away. When it comes to breast cancer prevention, it is all about early detection. Haste makes waste, as they say, and haste with breast cancer can cost you your life.

As for O’Donnell, she is aware of her risks and knows now what she must work on in order to keep breast cancer at bay. Hopefully, she will use her scare to help others and use the opportunity to raise some breast cancer awareness.

One of the hardest things that a breast cancer patient may have to go through is a mastectomy. When this happens, many women lose their feeling of self-worth. What has helped with this problem is these same brave women having breast reconstruction surgery and now new research shows that most of those women prefer silicone implants to saline implants.

In fact, recent research suggests that by the year 2015, the number will rise to 90% in regards to breast cancer survivors who choose silicone for breast reconstruction. This is a long way off from not so long ago as many feared what possible side effects could come with silicone implants.

In 1992 the FDA banned these implants, but then lifted the ban in 2006 as studies and findings came up empty in regards to the initial fears. Now silicone is making a comeback in breast augmentation as well as in breast reconstruction and the trend seems to be showing no signs of letting up.

However, it is still recommended that you speak with your physician before you decide on silicone or saline implants. By learning the pros and cons of both methods, you can choose the path which is right for you and your particular set of circumstances.

His offense; wearing pink kicking boots in a game October 8th and then again to the next practice.

Sheppard was wearing the boots as a tribute to his grandmother, who gave him the boots, and his step-grandmother, both breast cancer survivors. The coach however felt that Sheppard was ignoring his orders and promptly cut him form the team.

As if the cut was not enough of a slap in the face, Sheppard may actually now be in jeopardy of not graduating. His high school requires sports to be played in order to earn credits for graduation. Now Sheppard and his family have taken to the courts in an effort to win back his spot on the team and save his graduation.

It truly is a sad day when a young teen is not allowed to give a tribute to those he loves and is instead punished for his good deeds. Many coaches around the country encouraged tributes for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but apparently not all of them. Rules may be rules, but this one is not one that makes much sense.

Amidst all the scuttle, the coach is refusing to let Sheppard back on the team leaving a nasty court battle to ensue. This just seems like a case where action may have needed to be taken, but perhaps not in the drastic way that it did.

Along with a breast cancer page, there is also a hunger page, animal rescue page, a rain forest page, and more. Now, here’s the cool part; they offer a way for you to donate to breast cancer causes by simply clicking and looking. So, you can donate without giving a dime of your money.

The unique program works because sponsors pay to advertise on the website. When you, and millions of others, click on the ‘Click here to Give, It’s FREE’ button you are doing your part in earning valuable dollars that will go to fund mammograms for those who could not otherwise afford them. In fact, 100% of the sponsor’s advertising dollars go towards the effort.

This breast cancer awareness initiative has seen over 16,000 mammograms be given since the program started in October of 2000. Plus, you can shop for any number of the cool breast cancer products and give even more as a portion of the proceeds also go towards charity.

So, take a minute each and every day and give a little by clicking a little. It will cost you nothing but a little bit of your time and that time that you give could end up saving some one’s life.

The study shows that the drug, which is not used in Canada or the United States, can halt the overall spread of breast cancer cells that are typically resistant to chemotherapy.

In the break-out study, researchers injected breast cancer cells into two groups of mice. One group received normal breast cancer treatment and the other was also given the tranilast. The results to the second group were the primary tumor’s growth being reduced by 50 percent and no spread of the disease was found to the lungs.

Tranilast works by binding to certain molecules known as the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR). The AHR will act to regulate cell growth and even some immunity. This makes the drug a useful weapon in treating allergies, inflammatory diseases, and even cancer.

While there is still more that needs to be looked at in future studies, the initial findings are amazing and certainly encouraging. Hopefully those in Canada and the US will take another look at this drug and see if there is something to the study or not.
